Wider ski area

A number of major Austrian ski resorts can be accessed from Abtenau by car in order to guarantee snow as follows:

Flachau

This resort centre around the town of Altenmarkt, 30 minutes drive from Abtenau over Annaberg. It provides over 55 slopes serviced by 100 lifts ranging from 925 - 1980m. The resort is mainly for intermediate and beginners.

Schladming

This is a glacier resort which offers year round skiing. It lies 49 km south of Abtenau within the Dachstein region with a snow range between 745 – 2700m.
The ski area Dachstein Tauren provides 173 km of piste serviced by 80 ski lifts, excellent resort for intermediates and advanced. Longest run is 7.7km and it has 47 mountain restaurants.
This is also a top snowboarding destination.

Saalbach

This resort is in the same region as Abtenau, Salzburgerland and can be reached easily down the Villach/Graz motorway at a distance of 90km. The snow range is from 1003- 2096m and offers some lovely tracks through the trees. Excellent for beginners and intermediate skiers, it has 55 lifts serving 200km of pistes. There are also piste and lift links to Hinterglemm and Leogang. This area has an excellent snow record.

Zell am See

Another glacier resort with snow range from 762 -3029m. This is a lakeside town with a traffic free centre. As part of the Europa Sport Region, it links with another glacier resort Kaprun. Again it is only 75 km from Abtenau, down the Villach/ Graz motorway. Provides 132km of pistes serviced by 57 lifts and 25 mountain restaurants. It provides excellent skiing for all grades of skiers and snowboarders. For further information check the following link:
